“We need to take a look at these steps. Winter was really rough on a couple of them,” I said.
“I think they just need fresh paint and sealant,“ I said.
“A few boards might need to be replaced,” I added, with what I thought was healthy pessimism.
Anyway, here I am writing this week’s newsletter in one tab. The other contains a shared doc with quotes for a full rebuild on a set of exterior steps. I’m huddled in the downstairs bathroom with the dogs, who can’t stop barking at our handyman and his crew, who are swarming over our deck, knocking out old boards and providing morale-boosting updates like: “It’s a shame all this has rotted. This was really good wood. Prime grade from fifteen years-ago. Eighteen foot boards! You can’t get this anymore. And what you can get? It’s more expensive now, but they probably wouldn’t have even sold it at the lumberyard back then. Too low-quality.”
You think console pricing is bad? Try getting a couple nice two-by-fours.
