OK, so...I thought I pre-scheduled last week's end-of-week newsletter going out, which was supposed to cap off a new way of Remap scheduling with subscriber pods out on Monday, Rob and I chatting on Friday, and the newsletter on Saturday, and then I managed to forget to hit "publish" before logging off on Friday. Curses!!!! But rather than just delete the newsletter, I've decided to just drop it in at the bottom here, and you can, in your head, imagine what I'd planned.
-pk, who will be at PAX West this weekend, come to my panel on Sunday!
- MONDAY: As part of our new schedule, we're trying to get subscriber pods out on Monday, so you've got the latest My Turn in your feeds right now! Plus, Cado and I will close out Steam's Rhythm Fest with a lil' stream later today.
- TUESDAY: Because both Janet and I will be at PAX, we're recording Remap Radio way earlier than normal, so excuse any news we miss. (I think the Nintendo Indie direct is happening while we stream, so I'll keep note of anything big that might happen there, at least.) I'm going to put some hours into Star Wars Outlaws this evening, and I'll report back on the podcast.
- WEDNESDAY: The NFL season is coming soon, and so Rob and I will be looking ahead to what the Bears and other teams are up to. You'll hear that podcast next week, ahead of the NFL season starting on...Thursday night?
- THURSDAY: Janet will be on a train headed to PAX, while I'll be on a plane headed to PAX with my family. Please have some normal weather, Seattle!
- FRIDAY: Remap Radio will publish and close out a quieter second half of the week, but please do not hesitate to say hi if you see me walking around PAX!

What Happened at Remap This (Last) Week
I don't travel as much for work anymore, and for the most part, I am very happy to be home on most days. But I will admit feeling a pang of jealousy as I've watched photos hit my timeline across various platforms of buddies and colleagues jetting over to Germany to cover Gamescom. There is something about the thrill and exhaustion of covering an event like that with your buds, spending all day in tiny rooms playing games, then in other tiny rooms writing up thoughts on those games, and staying way up too late before you do it all over again to varying degrees of regret. The one time I went to Gamescom was ages and ages ago–I was working for 1UP.com, if that rings any bells. I read most of Stephen King's The Stand [Extended Edition] on my flights there and back. I have a distinct memory of our group having the genius idea of trying to trip balls by drinking absinthe. At the time, we did not know it was a myth. Instead, I just drank an intense alcohol that had me sitting around going "Okay, when's it gonna happen?"
-pk, who should note this newsletter is now arriving on Saturdays, with my letter series with Rob taking the Friday slot most weeks
- PODCAST: HOA – We’re delighted to welcome Janet Garcia into another meeting of the Remap HOA, as she joins Patrick and Rob to discuss the complexities of working from home. For us, work from home has been a way of life for years. But for others, COVID transformed their relationship with work. When your “home” becomes your “office,” it changes everything. A kitchen table is suddenly another desk. And what happens if your partner or roommate also works from home? WELL.
- STREAM: Gamescom Opening Night – Rob, Patrick, Janet, and Cado spent a few hours chatting over Geoff Keighley and his many (and not so many) announcements.
- STREAM: Motorsports Manager – Rob and Cado are back with Oberhoff Racing's third year around the track. Will all the money they made last year start to finally pay off?
- PODCAST: Remap Radio – Somehow, Peter Molyneux returned. But so did Remap Radio, as Patrick, Janet, Cado, and Rob gathered to discuss Gamescom. In fact, Janet had a chance to play some of those games, including Avowed, Little Nightmares III, Winter Burrow, and more. Patrick’s spent time with gaming’s latest culture war, Black Myth: Wukong, while Rob’s been stuck in digital submarines in UBOAT. Elsewhere, Patrick and Cado have both been enjoying the tactical pixel RPG Arco, and in The Question Bucket, we ponder more about Molyneux and our favorite corporate jargon.
- STREAM: Volgarr the Viking – A Remap x Nextlander collab, with Patrick and Brad playing through the extremely hard action game at the same time!
- ARTICLE: Hey, Why Do Sports Look So Bad on TV? by Patrick Klepek and Rob Zacny
- "I don’t know how, with a bigger screen and paying more money than ever before to watch TV on it, the names on players’ jerseys have gotten harder to read, but somehow they have. At least watching the basketball game on Peacock you had that gorgeous court that players really popped against, but that Bears game on the NFL Network? I felt like I was watching it on a flip phone circa 2006. It honestly looked like the NFL was hosting a pirate restream of its own game."
The Newsletter Question Bucket
You can send questions for this part of the newsletter, right here.
Last week you were asking for recommendations for golf games to play on stream. Super Video Golf is definitely worth checking out. I wouldn't say it's extraordinary, but it nails the fundamentals and the overall gameplay is very solid. Plus, it looks great too!
Patrick: I wonder if we should expand beyond golf and just play goofy sports games. That gives us way more options, honestly. I stumbled into this idea after thinking about this question, and then finding this tweet on social media:
Who wouldn't want to play that fucking game, am I right? Because I do!!!
The call went out for golf games for you and Cado. I don’t remember if you got around to playing 4D Golf, but I believe remote multiplayer has been added. Probably a game to look at briefly then switch to another.
Patrick: I just lpoked up a trailer for this game and...oh no.
My question is multi-parted: Does anyone remember the Coach TV Show? Was it any good? Is there any chance for crossover memes with y'alls College Football Coaching Staff and that of the show?
Patrick: Was it any good? I have no idea. Do I remember watching it a lot as a kid? Absolutely. It exists in the same part of my brain as Home Improvement. Iwas one of the motivations for watching the NBC sitcom Parenthood from some years back. I watched Parenthood before I had kids, which is probably a blessing; that show operated between sweetness and heartbreak, and I'm not sure I could have taken the show's ending now today. It was hard enough given my dad's passing.
