This Week at Remap

Patrick Klepek

I've been in a bit of a funk with video games lately, looking for something to latch onto. There's been a deluge of promising indie games, but few of them have managed to burrow into my head. I'm circling the endgame of Nine Sols, but honestly, I needed a break from all the anxiety, after back-to-back menacing bosses. (I'm trying to avoid even getting to the final boss lol). Valley Peaks is great, but I found the loop a little repetitive for the speed at which I was playing, so I've also set that down for a moment. Été? Not in the mood. Kitsune Tails? Charming but the platforming felt too basic. And then, out of nowhere, came Arco, a surprisingly violent and moving pixel-laden tactics RPG that I'll be telling you all about on the podcast this week.

  • MONDAY: Janet recently renovated her home office, which got Patrick thinking about renovating his home office, which got the entire HOA crew thinking we should get together and talk about working from home. We've also got some written pieces kicking around, but I'm not exactly sure when they are going to be published, though at least one of them will show up this week.
  • TUESDAY: We'll record the next episode of My Turn about 2000's Coen brothers classic, O Brother, where art thou?, as we begin our march towards Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis. I have not seen this movie since it came out, though whenever a clip surfaces in my feeds, especially if it's one of the songs, I'm always transfixed. You can submit questions for the discussion here. In the afternoon, we'll gather to talk over Gamescom's "Opening Night" event.
  • WEDNESDAY: Hey, look, the subscriber podcast is already out! We're trying to make that a trend, to make Remap's weeks a little more even. Give us a little patience while we shuffle production/recording schedules to keep making it happen. But today is not empty, as Cado and Rob will continue to motorsport.
  • THURSDAY: Remap Radio records, and I've fallen head-over-heels for a little pixel tactics/RPG called Arco. I guess we'll have to talk about all the Black Myth: Wukong stuff, too. Sheesh.
  • FRIDAY: Besides publishing Remap Radio, a little treat for everyone. I've been kicking around this idea where Nextlander's Brad Shoemaker and I play the ultra hard action game Volgarr the Viking simultaneously for a stream, and then play the new sequel the same way on another stream. Brad has played Volgarr, but I have not. What I have played, though, is a lot of hard games. Should be fun. Nextlander will host this stream, but we'll have an archive in the usual places, and I think Remap will end up hosting a follow-up stream(s?). It should be a really good time.
