This Week at Remap

I regret to inform everyone that I may have been radicalized by a cinematic experience over the weekend. One of my wife's all-time favorite stories is The Odyssey, so for a long time, the plan was to drive all the way to Indianapolis, aka the closest place where a true IMAX exists. But earlier this year, it was announced that a goddamn 70mm IMAX was being installed about half an hour south of us, and so I began patiently loading the Cinemark app for a set of tickets. On Friday, we cashed in those tickets—well, actually, I guess I could have sold them for a few hundred dollars and really cashed in—and experienced Absolute Cinema. It's impossible to describe the scale of that screen without experiencing it in person, and while I can probably take or leave the 70mm of it all, I can absolutely tell you that I'm going to be doing everything in my power to watch Dune 3 that way later this year. I'll wait weeks for the chance. That's how goddamn cool that huge screen was.

-pk, who did use ear plugs for most of that very loud movie

A calendar of the upcoming content for Remap
The upcoming schedule for Remap!
  • Library-Tier Podcast (Monday, August 3): Jump, Rank, RepeatFor nearly three hours, you can join Janet and I as we talk through Conker's Bad Fur Day, Donkey Kong 64, Banjo Kazooie, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Bros. 3, and a litany of other platformers. Our list grows quite a bit this episode!
  • Stream (???): 3 Ninjas Kick BackThis stream couldn't happen last week because my nine-year-old came down with strep, but I am determined to see the other end of this mediocre platformer, and honestly, I'm a little tempted to see if we shouldn't just keep playing other licensed games from this era. Maybe I should find out what Rare was doing with A Nightmare on Elm Street?
  • Stream (2:00 PM Tuesday, August 4): Marathon – One stream at a time, Rob and Chia are going to keep this damn game alive. This time, it's back to Vaultbreaker!
  • Article (Tuesday, August 4) – Duncan Fyfe writes on Obsidian's underrated "bad-guy RPG" Tyranny and the ways it fits within a history of fiction that tries to work through what makes people do bad things for bad causes.
  • Stream (2:30 PM Thursday, August 6) – Getting Over It – Look, it's been long enough since Baby Steps. It's time to dig into another absurdly hard game.
  • Podcast (Friday, August 7): Remap Radio – I'll hopefully have played more Big Walk with my daughter, and I've also been digging deep into Beast of Reincarnation. (Oh, and I finally beat First Light.) No Janet this week!
  • Library-Tier Article (Friday, August 7) – Prepare for thousands of words on whether we should be really concerned about the apparent leg injury the Bears star free agent safety Coby Bryant suffered in practice today. (I'm kidding. I think.)
